A computer mouse is an essential input device commonly used in conjunction with personal computers to facilitate user interaction with graphical user interfaces. Initially invented by Douglas Engelbart in the 1960s, the mouse has evolved into a versatile tool that enables users to control the movement of a cursor on a computer screen. Typically featuring two buttons and a scroll wheel, the mouse allows users to perform a variety of actions, such as selecting, dragging, and clicking, making it an indispensable device for navigating digital environments. The mouse operates through a sensor, often optical or laser-based, which detects surface movement and translates it into corresponding movements on the screen. Its ergonomic design aims to provide users with comfortable handling during prolonged use. Over the years, technological advancements have led to the development of wireless mice, eliminating the need for restrictive cables. With its intuitive functionality and ease of use, the computer mouse remains a fundamental input device, contributing to a seamless and efficient computing experience for users worldwide.
